Installer Tips
Before You Begin
1. Start with the factory drawings/submittals.
Review the branded factory drawings or submittals provided by our reps. These show the tagged sequence of parts for your specific jobsite layout.
-
If the drawings aren't tagged per part, request updated versions before installation begins.
-
Heatfab flue pipe requires it to have continuous slope, which is 0.25” / foot minimum. That slope is to be UPWARD & AWAY from the condensing heating appliance, so please ensure the system layout as drawn (with upward slope) will be accommodated for on the jobsite w/o other trade or building interferences. Also make sure that our drain locations (inline or drain tee caps) can be managed/plumbed, so that flue gas condensate can be removed from the exhaust system.
-
Make sure the appliance adapter that is quoted by our estimating/design team is the correct adapter for the appliance make/model and will fit onto the flue collar outlet. Specific dimensions of the adapter can be provided if requested.
2. Review each part before install.
Use the product catalog and the installation instructions (UL listings, flue temp limits, and relative clearance to combustibles) to confirm how each component is intended to be used. This is especially important for pipe joint connection methods, adjustables, supports, roof/wall penetrations, and terminations. If uncertain on any component, then please contact our sales rep or Heatfab technical support.
3. Pay close attention to joint and caulking requirements.
Heatfab has a factory adhered gasket for sizes 3”-16” (ID). The gasket should be liberally lubricated onsite with our di-electric silicone grease (typically quoted from our estimating dept), which aids in joint assembly and extends the gasket life.
Sizes 18” and larger, require each joint to be field caulked with our UL approved caulk.
